Betsson Sponsors EKO Rally

Sweden-based igaming operator Betsson has become the official sponsor of the EKO Acropolis Rally in Greece. The event, held on Thursday, September 9, will commence near the Sacred Rock of the Acropolis and continue on a newly-designated route around Parliament Square in the heart of the capital.

Why Is the EKO Acropolis Rally Important for Betsson?

EKO Acropolis Rally is a motor racing event which is set for September 9 through September 21 and marks the 65th edition of the competitive circuit. The event made a return to the FIA World Rally Championship after an eight-year hiatus, with Betsson as its flagship sponsor.

The Acropolis Rally is listed as the 9th round of the World Rally Championship (WRC) for 2021, which includes 15 stages with a total length of 292.19 kilometers that drivers need to overcome to win the title at the end of the season.

Through Betsson’s involvement in the event, fans will be able to experience the race from up close, thanks to company-backed initiatives featuring numerous opportunities for attendees to enjoy the event.

Commenting on these developments, Betsson Greece managing director Thanos Marinos had this to add:

“It is a great honor to be part of one of the traditional WRC races. EKO Acropolis Rally is engraved in the DNA of the Greek motorsport fans with more than 50 years of presence in the WRC calendar. We are happy that we are sponsoring the event as the Official Betting Partner and for having the opportunity to be on the field among the fans.”

Betsson’s involvement in the event makes the company the official betting partner for the EKO Acropolis Rally. The sponsorship also helps the company shore up its profile in the nascent sports betting market in Greece. The country issued new sports gaming regulations in July this year. It had been 20 years since a 2002 law prohibited all betting in the country.

With this new law, however, legislators have changed tack to allow sports betting operators to establish their shops back in the country. Betsson received two Greek licenses by the Hellenic Gaming Commission (HGC) to carry out sports betting operations back in May 2021.

One license was specifically to operate sports betting operations, including single-betting events, and the other was to run popular casino-style games of chance, including slots, poker, and others. Commenting on these developments in May, Betsson CEO and president Pontus Lindwall said that the company was pleased to have received those recognitions, making it the company’s 18th regulated market.

Betsson has been gaining momentum in the sports betting arena by sponsoring multiple high-profile, international events from the world of sports, including the sponsorship of the upcoming COPA América.
