International Game Technology has secured an extension of its contract with the Washington Lottery after its subsidiary, IGT Global Solutions Corporation (IGT), was re-approved by the state regulator. As a result, IGT will continue to provide lottery services to the state as part of the multi-year agreement that marks a seventh state for the firm to provide lottery operations in. The current contract has been extended through June 30, 2029, consolidating IGT’s footprint in the United States.
Where Is IGT Headed with Its Lottery Business in the United States?
Washington’s Lottery is one of the biggest self-service vending machine deployment operations, with 4the state lottery accounting for 45% of all lottery operations in the United States, the company specified in a press release. IGT’s successful collaboration has yielded hardware modifications and software development for the lottery’s 2,000 self-serving machines.
IGT also makes it possible to purchase various products through debit cards and, thanks to the GameTouch 28, 24 and 20 self-servicing vending machines. These devices can be found at authorized retail locations throughout the state.
Commenting on this partnership, Washington’s Lottery director Marcus Glasper pointed out that the state’s lottery has relied on IGT in the past 25 years.
“Within that time, IGT has helped us navigate the ever-evolving lottery landscape and provide us with innovative solutions to consistently engage new players. The addition of cashless functionality on self-service machines is another chapter in our development, and allows players to have a flexible, convenient and secure way to purchase their favorite lottery games.”
IGT COO Jay Gendron added that IGT was perfectly aware of what the lottery needed to achieve its business goals and was prepared to deliver on those targets:
“Since our current contract began in 2016, we have worked closely with the Lottery to increase its annual lottery sales by 37 percent, culminating in $950 million in total sales for the most recent fiscal year. We’ll continue to support the Lottery in maximizing its funds toward good causes, including the Washington Opportunity Pathways Account which funds educational programs around the state, while delivering entertaining and responsible experiences for its players.”
IGT saw its revenue notch up a 25% growth boosted by its B2C sale. The Lottomatica division was acquired by Gamenet earlier this year as part of a broader move for IGT. Prior to this, IGT confirmed Walter Bugno’s departure from the group which was part of an ongoing effort to downsize the board of directors, with Beatrice H. Bassey also leaving the company and all associated duties shortly before Bugno stepped down.
In March, IGT posted some more troubling figures, citing the full-year 2020 results and reporting that the COVID-19 impact on its business had been significant.
