Betsson Group and Scientific Games have partnered up to launch the OpenGaming platform in Colombia. This marks Scientific Games’ first step into the Latin American market and is the first time that their casino software will be available in the region.
Thanks to this partnership, Betsson and Colbet will now be able to offer Colbet games created by Scientific Games’ in-house studios, as well as content from third-party suppliers like Big Time Gaming, Lightning Box, and ReelPlay. The whole OpenGaming portfolio is expected to be available in the future, as well as other new, responsible igaming tools and options.
Why Is Betsson Expanding into Colombia?
The partnership with Betsson is important for Scientific Games, as just last year the Swedish company acquired a 70% stake of Colombian igaming operator Colbet. Betsson is one of the only operators currently licensed in Colombia, giving both companies a direct route into this emerging market.
Colombia and Latin America as a whole represent unique markets, where there is a large population but a very low concentration of igaming platforms. Igaming has only been legal in Colombia since 2016, meaning that the market is still very underdeveloped, with few competitors yet established. As a result, it offers a perfect opportunity for Betsson to grow and later move onto other countries in the region.
Ciara Nic Liam, Director of Gaming at Betsson Group, said:
“It is important for us to offer a premium experience to players in Colombia, and by launching with one of the industry’s preeminent content aggregation platforms, we are able to do exactly that.
“With the addition of Scientific Games’ in-house content and titles produced by leading studios in the initial roll-out phase, we can continue to present our customers with an ever-growing content catalogue with widespread appeal.”
Dylan Slaney, SVP Gaming, Digital at Scientific Games, added:
“Betsson Group has big plans across both Colombia and the LatAm region, and we are sure that our offering will appeal to its players across a wide demographic.
“This partnership represents the first step for OpenGaming in a vibrant market. Our sights are firmly set on building sustainable success across LatAm, one of the most important growth areas in the world for the igaming industry.”
Colombia is one of the few Latin American countries that has relatively relaxed igaming laws, and several other companies are now making a move to secure a stake in this market. Betsson joins a growing list of operators that have a presence in Colombia, but looks to be one of the first to offer quality casino igaming.
